Hey! My name is Quinn, and I’m from Princeton, New Jersey. I decided to take a gap year because I really wanted time to write, improve my Spanish, step out of my comfort zone, and gain work experience in areas I might not otherwise explore without a gap. This summer, I worked as a camp counselor at a wilderness tripping camp in Maine; this may not seem like a huge challenge, but I absolutely hated camping when I signed up for the job. I now can confidently say that I love camping and can rescue any small object or person under 85 pounds from a fast-moving rapid. In September, I am moving to Barcelona, where I will obtain my yoga-teacher certification. For my free time in Barcelona, I have signed up for art and dance classes, and I hope to explore the city, meet new friends, improve my Spanish and hopefully learn some Catalan! I do not yet have the following months planned, as I am hoping a job or opportunity will unfold while I am in Spain. Hopefully I will meet people in search of a yoga teacher/ au pair/ waitress (or maybe a wilderness camp counselor) so I can stay in Spain to work. If not, I will likely return home to the States to pursue improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy in Chicago. However my year unfolds, I hope it is filled with experiences that make for funny essays and stand-up comedy material.
