Tyler

Hey! My name is Tyler, and I live on the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I love spending my time in and around the water, fishing, boating, going to the beach, and working at my local marina. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, listening to the Grateful Dead, and exploring new places.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to visit Italy and Mexico. These trips opened my eyes to how unique cultures, landscapes, architecture, and traditions can be in different places of the world. This gave me the desire to explore more of our beautiful world, so when I heard about the Duke Gap Year Program, I instantly knew it was for me.

This year, I will travel the world with Baret Scholars, covering seven regions. In each region, I will spend three weeks in cities including: New York, Sao Paulo, Paris, Istanbul, Nairobi, New Delhi, and Beijing. I will also have a week-long side trip doing things like boating down the Amazon, biking through Spain along the Mediterranean, and many more. I am beyond excited for the adventures of my upcoming year, and I am eager to explore these new places, immerse myself in different cultures, and meet new lifelong friends!
