Hello! My name is Nick. I’m from Crestview, Florida! Go Bulldogs! I come from a smaller town so
I’d love to put myself in as many different perspectives as I can. I plan to spend my Gap Year
focusing on my interests while immersing myself in a variety of cultures, environments and
experiences.
My Gap Year kicks off with 3 months in South Africa: six weeks raising penguins, one week
working with the Big Five animals and four weeks teaching kids English, math, nutrition, and
surfing.
Then I’ll head to Peru to work on jungle conservation and healthcare -my true passion! (I aspire
to be a trauma surgeon.)
Next comes Belize where I’ll help to protect endangered species and biodiversity! Doing similar
work comes to Costa Rica where I will spend a few weeks working in healthcare and further
animal care.
I’ll finally end my gap year in the Philippines where I’ll be doing coral reef research for several
weeks.
My goal for my gap year is to grow as a person and hone my ability to adapt, be resourceful,
and further develop my sense of compassion. I can’t wait to share some stories of my journey
when I finally head off to Duke
