Hi everyone! My name is Elsa and I’m from Freeport, Maine.
I will start my gap year on a small Caribbean island getting my scuba diving certification and
volunteering with a reef restoration organization. After that, I will spend two months in Costa
Rica completing a Spanish intensive course, followed by a few weeks backpacking in Nicaragua
and a month of working in schools in Guatemala.
In the spring, I will head over to southeast Asia to backpack for a month and a half before
spending a little over a month volunteering in Thailand. I will end my gap year in Nepal, where I
will volunteer for a month and hopefully complete a trek in the Himalayas.
I am very excited and grateful for these opportunities as part of the Duke Gap Year program!
